Self

Jung spoke of the Self (capital "S"). What do you personally see, feel, and think he meant by this 'Self'? Discuss this and it's differences to the Hindu 'Atman', which also translates to 'Self'.

Hi.

The Self.

I experience my Self when I paint a picture.

When I relax my physical body whilst in the presence of a horse.

I experience my Self when I sing with Al as he accompanies us on guitar.

Meeting a stranger, being with a friend.

Being Still.

These are some of my experiences.

As for Hinduism, I have no words at this time.

You obviously see the Self as your personal connection the higher beings and Great Spirit.
I experience this connection mostly when I'm in meditation, doing ceremony, or sitting at a fire starring into the flames. It is this connection that we must aim to have in every present moment. But we must not get frustrated if we find it dificult to hold.
I believe this is what Jung meant by Self, but the Hindu 'Atman' represents the impersonal aspect of God, Great Spirit, etc. Atman is best referred to as 'The Great Mystery', which is never to be known and the experience of which is fleeting and cannot be shared or discussed as it is beyond our abilities as a manifest being; it is an experience that is beyond and yet within our physical form.
